How did I let 11 rolls collect dust all those years? Technically, they were in a tiny box tucked away in storage and had little to no dust, but I always thought it would financially ruin me. Hence, why I have never developed more than one roll at a time, but I wanted to get these rolls developed because it’s been long enough. I wanted them off of my metaphorical and literal desk.
Now, was this mainly because I knew Savannah Film Lab charged $9 for mail-in develop and scan? Yes. So I packed them up and mailed them out on Wednesday, they received them on Thursday at like 2pm and my scans were in my email by 7pm.
Witchcraft.
The last time I developed a roll was back in 2022 with Biggs Camera in Charlotte, North Carolina. I included a few of those shots in another blog post.

So these six rolls pre-date that one making it very early in my post-college era. Safe to say, I expected nothing, but trash. Surprisingly, there were a few decent ones.
First, let’s look at a few of the ones I didn’t love.
I think my issue with a lot of the bad ones, and there were a lot more than shown, was the lack of direction. I have an inkling that I was just shooting to to shoot. Which is fine, I just wish I would’ve left myself a note and said, “hey, girl, these will be 98% trash, do not get your hopes up.”
Also, I don’t remember what camera was used for what because I kept buying film cameras and not using them. I have an inkling that the ones that weren’t the best were taken on my old Pentax IQ Zoom, but I can’t be certain. All I know, is that my Yashica FX-3 Super 2000 never fails me and it’s the only film camera I haven’t sold or given away.
I think it’s responsible for most of my favorite photos from these rolls. Before I get into them, I forgot to mention that there was an entire blank roll. I’m going to assume it was the one roll I didn’t recognize and was probably taken from an old film camera that I had purchased. Anyway, here are some of my favorite photos:
Some of them had a light leak and I want to say that was the Psych Blues roll I bought back in 2019. However, the rest were fine. I didn’t expect to have that many decent shots, especially the one with the leaning light pole. I love it and I can’t explain it. If I were to print any of them, it’d be that one, my Grandmother eating chicken (she hated that photo), and the two of my dog. There were a lot more that were of family members, but I don’t want to post them without their approval.
However, now I feel like I have to redeem myself. I think I need to make it a mission to shoot more film and learn how to develop it myself, but one thing at a time. I’ll start with ordering some film soon, but I need to do some research. If you have any film recs, please send them my way.
